Q:  Dear Dave,

I have around 8 varieties that I plan on growing this year—all of them have growth cycles below 85 days. The problem I see is that I may have started germinating inside them too late—first week of April. I have lots of sprouts and they are all doing really well. I plan on not moving them outside until June 1st, which takes me to the end of August for a 90-day cycle.  Am I going to be OK here (southern NY)?  The only drawback I see is that I will be waiting for some fruit for a while…  I will star them in February next year.

A:  Hello Joe:

You should be fine with those chiles. Their growth is slow until it warms up significantly. Often, late-planted chiles will catch up with the ones planted earlier.
