Q: Hi Dave,

I visited your "Ask Dave" section and found some good help on starting a hot sauce business.  However, the idea I have for a hot sauce is built more around the novelty of my product name, than the quality of the sauce.  I’m not really a cook, and am hoping to locate some form of generic hot sauce that I could purchase from a wholesaler and bottle under my product name.  If you have any leads, ideas, etc., I’d be much appreciative.

Thanks,

Keith

A: Hello Keith:

This is called private labeling and is commonly done when a person is more interested in marketing and selling a product rather than seeing their precious recipe bottled.  In my opinion, this is a good way to proceed.  I recommend that you talk to Phil or Wanda Clark.  They are co-packers here in Albuquerque who could pull this off for you.  Their number is 505-881-4921.  Their company is Food Processors of New Mexico.  Tell them I sent you.
