Q: Dave,

I grew two red habanero plants last year and the plants froze during the winter.  Will they come back to life or will I need to buy more seedlings to plant?  BTW, what is the hottest pepper on the planet?  I heard that the ‘Red Savina’ habanero is the king, and then I read that it doesn’t compare with some grown in South America and India.

Thanks in advance,

Bob Spinks

A: Hello Robert:

Your red habanero plants will not come back to life, so buy more seedlings.  The ’Red Savina’ habanero has the hottest test ever recorded, but that has never been duplicated, so it is suspect.  In tests at New Mexico State University, the ’Chocolate Habanero’ was the hottest pepper tested.  The claims from India have never been verified.
