Q.  Dr. BBQ:
 
I have seen you cook. Me and my 14-year-old son cook a lot together on a Brinkman Smoke-N-Pit and also in the kitchen. We are interested in entering a barbecue competition. As this would be our first one, can you offer any suggestions on how to get started and how to find some local
competitions?  We live in Maryland. Thanks in advance and if you are ever in this area in the summer or fall, contact me and we will cook you some Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs.

The best bet is to just jump on in. Sign up for a judging class, or a cooking class and then send in your entry fee and cook one. Tell the rep and your neighbors at the cookoff that you”re a new guy and you”ll be amazed at how much help you”ll get.  Have fun.  Lists of cookoffs can be found here:
