Q: Dave,

I bought some Arrivivi Gusano pepper plants this year and I got a huge crop (bought from the Chile Woman and boy did I get my money’s worth), but I have no clue as to what to cook or make from them.  I could make some hot sauces, etc. (the usual) but I am looking for specific recipes for foods that use these peppers native to Peru.  I have come up with zilch on the web…ideas, thoughts, comments?  These babies are HOT and tasty.

A: Hello Mike:

I think what you are looking for does not exist.  This is an extremely obscure pepper probably grown more for ornamental use rather than for cooking, since "gusano" means "worm" or "caterpillar" in Spanish.  Just use them in any recipe calling for jalapeños or

serranos.
