Q: Hi Dave,

Just something real quick for you. I am banging my head against the wall trying to figure out if ’Red Savina’ and ’Caribbean Red’ are the same pepper. Please advise. Oh, also real quick, in your opinion, what are the 10 hottest peppers in the world? I’m going to try to grow the 10-20 hottest peppers in North Carolina this year. Thanks and please keep up the great work. Have a great pepper day!

Jeff

A: Hello Jeff,

I believe they are precisely the same cultivar, probably from Barbados, where they are called ’Bonney peppers’. They also could be ’Congo Pepper’ from Trinidad, but they are usually larger. Use your sore head to examine this heat scale from NMSU, here. Omitted from this list are some very hot chiles, including chiltepin, bird’s eye, and chilipiquin.

Dave
