Hi Dave!

Not sure if you can help me, but I am helping my mother in getting her salsa marketed. She and her two sisters are excellent cooks and have a very vintage flare. Anyways, she makes an excellent salsa, which everyone loves, and I would like her to try selling it. We have a product name and that’s about it. Where is a good place to start for something like this? Any guidance is appreciated. Thank you!

Hello Kate:

Most munincipalities do not allow sales of food made in homes or unlicensed kitchens, so she should get a contract packer to produce the salsa to her specifications. We have many articles on starting a food business, here.  Also, I think that there are too many salsas on the market and that she will have a difficult time competing.

Hope this helps,

Dave
