Hello Dave,

I have a C. annuum (Pimento de Padron) plant and have protected it from insects using row cloth. The problem is that I started this a bit late in the season and not sure the designated, marked pods are going to mature to red. If worse comes to worse, will seeds from large green pods be viable next year? I have never saved seeds from immature pods before and wondered if some or all we yield good seedlings. Any thoughts on this?

Jim

Hello Jim:

Seeds from immature green pods will not be viable. Leave them on the plant as long as possible and some of them may start turning red. If they start turning red, you can pick them and they will continue to mature, yielding viable seeds.
