Hi Dr. BBQ:
The Q shops I frequent do not carry oak . What kind of oak is recommended? Can I go to a lumber yard and buy an oak board and cut it up ?

Unless you need a lot for a wood burning cooker you might want to order the oak on line. http://hawgeyesbbq.com is an advertiser in the magazine and a great place. They carry all kinds of wood along with a great selection of rubs and sauces. They even carry my books so you should be able to give your credit card a workout and get all stocked up for the summer.
