Q:  Hi Dr. BBQ,

Who makes custom label BBQ sauces?  I have a friend who is a musician in New Orleans and he is famous for his BBQ that he cooks during the gigs. Besides selling his fans his latest CD he would like to sell BBQ sauce, hot sauce, aprons, etc. with his band name, logo and info on the label.  Please give me advice or contacts on how to get started.

A:  Hi Logan,

That is a very common business practice and his best bet will be to look locally. A major expense in the sauce business is shipping so local is always a good idea.  He needs to look for a sauce co-packer in the phone book.  The other option is a local independent sauce producer. Many small companies will let you private label their products, or they are anxious to help you do your own recipe so they can produce it for you and create business for themselves. Once they buy the sauce making and bottling equipment they have to keep it busy.

Good luck,

Dr. BBQ
